Unit Manager-Nursing 12,000.00 Sign On Bonus

Under the supervision of the DON and ADON, assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting in the planning, organization, direction, supervision and evaluation of all nursing services on assigned unit/facility. The Unit Manager position is responsible for assessing resident care needs and implementing appropriate action. This position implements nursing policies and procedures and supervises staff and the quality of nursing care provided to residents. This position coordinates and monitors medical services, including medication services, in accordance with the individual resident care plan.


1. Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversees daily work assignments
Directs the work of employees
Oversees the schedule of lunch and rest breaks
Authorizes early departure from work
Authorizes overtime
Reassigns employees from one area to another area based on facility needs
Prepares written evaluations of assigned employees (CNAs)
Enforces facility policies with authority to issue Progressive Discipline as needed
Authority to suspend employees for rules violation
Interviews applicants as assigned
Receives and handles employee, resident/family complaints
Participates in training programs and assists in orientation of new staff

1. Assumes responsibility for analysis of incident and accident investigation reports to determine causes and implement corrective actions.
2. Gathers and Provides necessary information for Infection Control, Wound Management, fall and other programs as assigned, to ADON for program compliance.
3. Participates in the admission of new residents including proper documentation. Provides support and assistance to MDS Coordinators
4. Must be able, during a facility emergency/disaster, to report to an assigned area and perform the necessary task to ensure calm, orderly and safe handling of residents, staff and the public.
5. Effectively communicates with residents and family regarding resident care, including care plan changes, clinical updates and follow up to concerns.
6. Pass medications and monitor residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects, as needed
7. Accurately document medication given, as needed
8. Provide treatments to residents based on care plan.
9. Supervise CENAs, including assisting with resident care, providing direction and guidance for standards of practice.
10. Notify Nursing Services Manager when there is a change in residents conditions, questions and concerns
11. Verify accuracy of narcotic count, check emergency kit and keys, as needed
12. Order, receive and store medications accurately and appropriately, as needed
13. Follow narcotic disposal policy, as needed
14. Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information
15. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, agencies and service Providers
16. Responsible for assuring resident safety
17. Observe infection control procedures
18. Ensure required documentation is completed by nurses and CENAs timely and accurately
19. Works overtime, holiday and weekend hours as scheduled.
20. Shares On-Call responsibility with the other nurse managers
21. Participates in Care Conferences as assigned
22. Performs other duties as assigned by DON/ADON/Administrator


1. A licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Michigan
2. Certification in CPR
3. Attend yearly review and update in-services


1. Must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact effectively with residents, staff, families and visitors.
2. Organize, maintain, and fill out records and reports completely and accurately
3. Ability to use critical thinking skills in stressful situations
4. Able to stay organized and plan out days, events and duties
5. Communicate effectively
6. Capable of using good judgement in assessing problem situations and when to involve supervisory staff, emergency services and law enforcement agencies when appropriate
