Mechanistic Biology Kalamazoo group is seeking an innovative and
highly motivated post -doctoral immunologist with expertise in
mucosal immunology related to infectious and non-infectious
diseases to contribute towards discovery and development of novel
therapies for veterinary species. The Mechanistic Biology group
within Discovery Sciences &Technologies works across various
therapeutic areas and is geared towards understanding the
immunological basis of inflammation, infectious/non-infectious
disease, and host-pathogen interactions in order to identify,
evaluate, and progress therapeutic targets and substrates for
companion animals and livestock.Responsibilities:*Develop/optimize
and implement novel in vitro and ex vivo cell culture models to
assess immunological mechanisms of infectious
diseases/host-pathogen interactions & therapeutic targets relevant
to mucosal immunity*Characterize immunological responses in in
vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo model systems using multiple technical
approaches to elucidate interactions between immune cells and
non-immune cells in mucosal sites as they relate to host-pathogen
interactions, immunopathology, and immunomodulation*Perform routine
and complex, specialized, laboratory procedures including cell
culture and various immunoassays for investigators*Work closely
with the Mechanistic Biology, Genetics/Bioinformatics, Livestock
Research groups to provide expert advice/service in mucosal
immunology, experimental design development/execution and
application of immune assays towards identification and validation
of therapeutic targetsBasic Qualifications:Suitable candidate will
have a PhD in immunology or related biomedical/biology area with a
focus in mucosal immunology, innate immunology, infectious disease,
and inflammation. Has extensive experience developing in vitro and
ex vivo cell culture systems to address immunobiological questions
in mucosal immunity and infectious disease. Has enthusiasm to learn
new immunoassays/techniques and investigate variety of different
disease areas. Has ability to work independently in research
projects within area of specialization. Candidate must also be a
creative/independent thinker and with a track record of research in
innate/mucosal immunology and peer reviewed publications in
relevant areas.Desired Skill sets:*In-depth knowledge of mucosal
immunology and strong experience in related in vitro and ex vivo
techniques with emphasis in innate immunity and infectious disease,
preferably with background in veterinary immunology
*Strong practical expertise in developing and implementing in vitro
mono- and co-culture culture techniques to investigate
immunological mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions (preferably
bacterial) and inflammation relevant to mucosal immunity; strong
understanding of translation of in vitro/ex vivo model systems to
in vivo models*Strong practical expertise in developing,
implementing, and analyzing data from a range of immunological
techniques for ex vivo and in vitro models including cell culture
(primary & immortalized, immune & non-immune), ELISA (or preferably
multiplex assays e.g. MesoScale Discovery U-Plex assays, Luminex),
immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry (experience with FlowJo
analysis preferred)*Experience with bacterial or viral in vitro
culture techniques for use in in vitro infection models*Experience
with techniques in RNA/protein isolation and qPCR and/or
RNA-Sequencing from tissue/cell culture*Experience with live cell
fluorescent imaging techniques (Incucyte, confocal microscopy,
etc.)*Experience/familiarity with 3-D cell culture systems to
elucidate mucosal immunological mechanismsZoetis is committed to
