The Biopharmaceutical Development group in Zoetis Veterinary
Medicine Research and Development is seeking a talented bioprocess
scientist or engineer to join our efforts in the design and
development of bioprocesses for manufacture of novel protein
therapeutics and monoclonal antibodies intended for veterinary
medicine applications. The successful candidate should have
hands-on experience in the development and optimization of
mammalian bioreactor processes for efficient production of
biotherapeutic proteins. Experience across multiple process scales
is required including; shaker flask cultures, laboratory reactors,
and pilot scale reactors. Experience with single-use bioreactor
systems, perfusion culture mode systems, and the ability to conduct
experiments within a factorial design (DoE) will be highly
regarded. The successful candidate will work with minimal
supervision in carrying out their assigned tasks in experimental
development of bioreactor processes for GMP manufacture. This job
requires an independent thinker with a demonstrated ability to
innovate at the bench and collaborate effectively with other team
members. Work will be performed in an independent manner with
periodic review against agreed objectives. The successful candidate
will have a track record in the application of both theoretical and
practical knowledge of bioreactor systems to find working solutions
for the numerous scientific challenges encountered in this
discipline. Having a team-oriented approach and excellent
communication skills are essential.
Design and conduct bioreactor experiments to identify and
validate critical parameters that affect fermentation performance
across multiple scales. The parameters to be investigated include
reactor configuration, medium composition, and fed batch
Systematically optimize the parameters that affect bioreactor
performance through the application of statistical models for
experimental design and analysis.
Partner with scientists working in cell line development to
conduct screening experiments with purpose to identify
high-performing cell lines.
Work in partnership with colleagues in pilot and manufacturing
scale operations to devise scale-up strategies for bioreactor
Drive innovation and continuous improvement by conducting
laboratory experiments to evaluate new bioprocess technologies.
Document experimental findings through periodic authorship of
progress reports to be included in dossiers for product
registration and technology transfer.
Serve as upstream development lead on project teams which
includes willing sharing of research findings with team members,
peers, and management.
Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks and records in accord
with scientific protocol and applicable Standard Operating
Education and Experience:
A relevant degree in science or engineering. BS with 5 years of
experience or MS/PhD with 2 years
A minimum of 2 years' experience in the development of
Both theoretical and practical knowledge of the parameters the
affect bioreactor design and performance.
Experience in sterile technique for mammalian cell culture.
