The Protein Therapeutics group within Global Therapeutics
Research at Zoetis has the mission and responsibility for
identifying and delivering novel large and small molecule
therapeutics for a diverse array of indications. We are seeking a
talented and experienced postdoctoral scientist to join our efforts
in the exploration of novel screening and expression technologies.
The ideal candidate will have experience with phage and/or yeast
display and the generation and characterization of peptide/protein
libraries. Working experience with both prokaryotic and eukaryotic
expression systems and knowledge of current gene editing platforms
is highly desirable. Day-to-day activities will include
identification and evaluation of fit-for-purpose approaches for the
generation and expression of reagent proteins to address individual
VMRD project analytical requests. This position will also take a
leadership role in discussions with external partners and oversight
of technology collaborations.The successful candidate will have a
PhD or equivalent in scientific discipline with emphasis in protein
engineering, cell biology, molecular biology or related field.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
are essential. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and/or generation of display libraries in multiple
formats (phage, yeast, mammalian)
- Identification and evaluation of novel platforms for the
expression of recombinant proteins
- Engage external technology partners and internal
cross-functional teams, assisting with the design and providing
oversight of collaborative efforts
- Protein purification (mAbs, therapeutic proteins, reagent
proteins, peptides) by affinity or native methods
- Analytical characterization of proteins by SDS-PAGE, CGE,
Western Blot, ELISA and analytical SEC
- Prepare precise technical report summaries, protocols, analysis
and maintain appropriate documentation
- Maintain high scientific rigor and attention to detail in
testing hypotheses and analyzing dataEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Educational background: PhD or equivalent in scientific
discipline with emphasis in protein engineering, cell biology,
molecular biology or related field
- Training and demonstrated proficiency in cell biology and
aseptic cell culture with a wide variety of cell types
- Working knowledge in molecular biology, cloning and protein
analysis techniques (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, ELISA)
- Recombinant protein expression experience in prokaryotic (E.
coli) and eukaryotic (yeast, mammalian) systems
- Experience in the generation and characterization of phage,
yeast and/or mammalian display libraries
- Experience with gene editing and cell manipulation for enhanced
/ engineered protein production
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exhibiting
self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitudeADDITIONAL

primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. Occasional travel to other Zoetis sites
may also be requested.The person filling this position will work
predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to
