SAFETY COORDINATOR

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000



The Safety Coordinator is responsible for general administrative support to the Safety Department including tasks of data entry and report compilation. The -Safety Coordinator will support the safety team on weekly site inspections throughout the Southwest Michigan region and compile reports based on findings. This role is responsible for safety functions necessary to support all project teams and safety team personnel. The primary goal is to continually maintain an appropriate level of -awareness, knowledge, and preparedness -across the organization to create a culture that prioritizes effective safety protocol.



The Safety Coordinator -is responsible for general support to the Safety Department including tasks of data entry and report compilation. The Safety Coordinator will support weekly job inspections throughout the Southwest Michigan region and compile reports based on data collected. This role is responsible for safety functions necessary to support all project and safety team personnel.



This position will support the safety team in overall leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration of Health and Safety processes to include regulatory agency compliance, company policies and human capital development.



This position reports to the Director of Field Safety for administrative purposes, but closely collaborates with the safety team to coordinate program efforts and outcomes.



This is a full time FLSA non-exempt position. The position requires 40 work hours per week with the ability to work more if necessary.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Program Management (60%)

    • Assist in promoting safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all Federal, State, Local regulations, and owner/contractual requirements
    • Interfaces with regulatory agencies, staff members, trade contractors and key client personnel in support of projects
    • Ensures personnel training and corrective action follow-up is completed.
    • Assist with accident investigation, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures
    • Provide feedback for the continuous development of Safety Policies and Procedures as well as effective implementation of these policies.
    • Assist in various aspects and responsibilities in the EHS System - including data entry, running reports, SOP development, and update of existing forms
    • Assist in review of subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with CSM's policies
    • Utilize behavioral based safety (BBS) practices


    • Training and Development (10%)

      • Continuing education; attends meetings, training courses, and workshops to keep up-to-date on new safety methods and procedures to applicable codes and regulations or to maintain required level of certification.
      • Studies and prepares to take safety certification exam - STSC, CHST, ASP, etc. (It is expected that you will complete the STSC exam in the first year of employment.)
      • Track and schedule required safety trainings or certification renewals
      • Provide training on specific safety subjects
      • Schedule consultative educational training sessions with OSHA and field staff


      • Safety Audits (20%)

        • Responds and provides assistance to all emergency situations
        • Develop accident investigation reports to track and prevent recurrence of incidents and to ensure information on incidents is shared adequately across the organization. Supports the process for post-incident investigations and lessons learned
        • Ensures site safety through review of procedure documents, and contractor's safety manuals.
        • Immediately addresses critical safety concerns arising in the field working with all parties involved to determine a corrective plan of action.
        • Assists in site safety audits using inspection checklists and photos to provide a comprehensive report to field personnel


        • Reporting (10%)

          • Report, schedule and track safety trainings and certifications for all staff
          • Track and distribute safety equipment and supplies
          • Update client databases with current safety metrics and data required
          • Assist with regular written reports, metrics, KPIs, etc. as well as other production-related results and updates to the Safety Director



            MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


            • Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety, Construction Management, Project Management or Engineering or military equivalency
            • 0-5 years of practical field experience or military equivalency
            • Microsoft Office Suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
            • OSHA 30, or STSC, or CHST certifications
            • Must be highly motivated and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills
            • Must be able to travel and willing to work occasional weekends if needed
            • Ability to work in an effective safe manner
