**This posting is for External candidates only. We are currently recruiting for a variety of open positions from:

- PRN, Part time and Full time with openings on 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift.
-Positions available in Blood Bank, Core Lab and Microbiology dept.
-Locations vary from Kalamazoo to Battle Creek.
-Sign-on bonuses available for 2nd and 3rd shift positions.

Individuals perform examinations on human specimens for the purpose of obtaining information for health care providers to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. Individuals may perform waived, moderate and high complexity testing. Each individual must demonstrate the skills required for proper performance of preanalytical, analytic, and postanalytical phases of testing. Once competency is demonstrated, direct supervision is not required for specimen processing, test performance or result reporting. Supervisory or director work review is required on critical patient test results, results outside of analytic detection limits, and delta checks based on patients' clinical result variability. Individuals may work in one or more laboratory disciplines (i.e., chemistry, hematology, blood bank, etc). Individuals may be supervised by the department manager or senior technologist. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics that is a NAACLS accredited program and be graduating within 60 days of hire.
For high complexity testing must have bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited program.

Certification as a Medical Technologist-MT (pre-2004 certifications only) or Medical Laboratory Scientist-MLS from ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) Board of Certification (BOC) or be registry eligible or registered ASCP or comparable national registrations (ie AMT, NCA, etc) that require a 90 semester credit hours plus internship. Registry eligible technologist must receive registration within 1 year of hire date.

All individuals who are newly ASCP certified (since January 1, 2004) must maintain ongoing certification as a MLS through completion of the required Competency Maintenance Program (CMP) from the ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) BOC accrediting body.
Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with documentation and record keeping in the department Must demonstrate a degree of independent judgment and critical thinking, consulting with the supervisor when appropriate Must be able to move from task to task, maintaining quality and efficiency Requires good verbal skills to report and discuss findings as needed to with physicians and other hospital personnel Requires courtesy, tact, and good customer service orientation

Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
Responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results. Performs only tests that they have trained in and demonstrated competency. Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Follows good laboratory practices with reagent stability and storage. Adhere to the laboratory's chemical and bio-hazardous safety policies and procedures. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting performed. Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the supervisor prior to reporting patient test results. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Communicates all critical values and tests to an appropriate healthcare provider. Assists supervisor in evaluating and selecting new testing methods and instrumentation. Participates in Laboratory Quality Program activities with emphasis on assuring compliance with training, safety, laboratory, hospital, and accreditation standards Maintains competencies and certification through approved methods of continuing education. Assists in orienting any new laboratory employees. Assists in training new laboratory employees in pre-analytical, analytical (waived, moderate and high complexity), and post-analytical phases of testing as appropriate to job description. Assists in training, teaching and supervising laboratory MLT and MLS students in pre-analytical, analytical (waived, moderate and high complexity), and post-analytical phases of testing. May be delegated by the manager to act as charge tech to help resolve technical problems in accordance with the laboratory's policies and procedures

Lakeview/South Haven Specific Duties Performs the full range of tests in section(s) assigned and provides assistance and quality control checks of work performed by lessor qualified personnel. Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology. Performs blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes. Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer. May call results (particularly stat tests) to the floor or physician offices and is responsible to call all critical values to an appropriate healthcare worker or physician Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data. Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure. Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and running known controls. Makes minor adjustments to instruments as necessary. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment. Maintains appropriate records of work performed and is required to enter all pertinent information into the anatomic computer. Maintains and upgrades his/her competencies through reading, attending teleconferences, workshops and other available continuing education programs appropriate to the advances in anatomic pathology. Assists in teaching/orienting new employees to the department. Trains and supervises students while working in section. Performs venipuncture blood draws and capillary punctures. Performs specimen processing according to standard operating procedure.
