Zoetis, the world's largest Animal Health company is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of poultry technician at the Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) world headquarters in Kalamazoo and Richland Michigan.Role Description The animal research technician is a critical role in the day-to-day animal facility operations and portfolio execution. This position will support the Poultry operations in a biocontainment and non-biocontainment research environment. Primary species of responsibility is poultry but may also include cross-support with other species. The position requires the proper use and maintenance of all necessary equipment and follow appropriate techniques as determined by departmental SOPs and institutional Policies.   • Setting up and performing a variety of animal activities
  • Performing daily animal husbandry, sample collection, & sample processing.
  • Data collection & record keeping.
  • Executing technical aspects of study protocols and laboratory and instrument maintenance in accordance with applicable Animal Welfare and GXP and policies.
  • All responsibilities must be conducted in accordance with protocols and applicable SOPs.Other responsibilities include:
    • Utilizing knowledge of how functional areas are used and maintained in the completion of research protocols.
    • Responsible for all steps of room maintenance related to studies, cleaning and disinfecting animal areas, assisting and supporting the clinical veterinarians.
    • Ensuring the animal facilities are in inspection ready state, provide training in animal activities, contributes to continuous improvement and shares knowledge and expertise with others in work group.This position may include evening hours and will include weekend and holiday work hours.May not own birds or poultry; other outside contact with birds or poultry is limited.Qualifications:
      • High School + 3 years related experience or education combined and/or valid veterinary technician license/certification
      • Experience in working with animals, poultry preferred, in a commercial or veterinary research settingDesired Attributes:
        • Associate degree in related field, desired.
        • Demonstrated math and reading comprehension required and basic computer skills.
        • Proven track record of working well in a team setting.
        • Experience and success with multiple veterinary procedures in a research environment and operation of farm equipment.
        • Experience working infectious disease models in animals.
